An Interview with Paul Nikhil
1. What sparked your interest in participating in a Re:Vision competition?
I saw Re:vision as not a design or architecture competition but a platform where visionaries could mix the fields of Business, New ideas on co-creation and sustainability. In the past I have been working on cultural identity and design, co-creating value, and convergence of businesses and people, and I took this competition as opportunity to remix them for the better.
2. Were you inspired by nature?
I wouldn’t say nature, but I was inspired by the nature of our actions that prevail today and calls for necessary changes.
Like I mentioned before Designers, companies, government organizations cannot work alone in isolation, cannot place customers at the end of their value chain, as mare receivers of the final product, instead they have to be included in the value creation process, and more than ever ,Now they are more than welcoming to participate in the development process of any product(outcome).
3. What do you think of the scale of a city block?
I am not an architect , I am not sure what you mean by scale of a city block. But I would like to say, A City, can be built block by block.
4. Do you have a background in design?
Yes, I have been part product designer part strategist, I took my masters degree from Domus academy, Milan in Business design, and now I am working in Milan itself.
5. What in your opinion is the next step for developing the design of your winning entry? Different materials? Prototypes?
Well, I would say the business aspect of it, Details, and realistic figures need to be worked out, and inspiration should be driven from already existing examples of collaborative livelihoods.
6. What is the one idea you wish someone would come up with?
not sure
7. Can you see your idea integrating with other ideas from previous competitions, and how?
My idea, Constructive weekends, could work in parallel with most of the ideas that the architects have presented in the competition.
The idea shouts out loud the need of involving customers(or residents in this case), to be a part of the building process, to cut costs, and for added value.
One tends to value something more when one has been a part of its building process, which further leads to sustainability, one becomes a part of the mission.
8. Which of our Re:Visionaries do you admire most? What would you ask them if you had the opportunity?
It’s hard to choose one, and I am sure they are working towards a better sustainable future, in their respective areas of expertise.
But I would like to ask a question to you guys -The team of Re:Vision. Well, two questions I liked the fact that it was a series of Competitions and not just one,
1. But what exactly did you do with all the results, there are some really intelligent ideas, I am not sure if its just published on the website and that’s it, or there is more to them? Are they been realized yet or would in future?
2. How is your competition sustainable?
